Shipped Stratagem: Building a narrative engine on a potato setup (React + Vercel) 🚀
Hey everyone! Wanted to drop a quick update on what I’ve been executing over the last few days.
I’ve been building Stratagem—a premium workspace console designed specifically for authors who need to track narrative states and pacing grids without dealing with bloated corporate software menus.
🛠️ The Tech Stack
Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS, Vite:
Storage: 100% local-first via client-side localStorage (fully private for writers).
Deployment: GitHub + Vercel (Production-grade global edge hosting for exactly $0.00/month).
🥵 The Real Roadblock: Hardware vs. Hustle
I see a lot of people waiting for the "perfect" setup before they start building, but I had to fight my own hardware every single step of the way to get this live:
The Laptop: I'm coding this on an old Lenovo G570. It constantly heats up, stutters, and threatens to completely freeze if I keep too many Chrome tabs open alongside my local development server.
The Phone: I've been testing and trying to edit short video clips on an Oppo A23 that thermal throttles the moment I ask it to render a basic video timeline or capture screen recordings.
I did hit a massive snag right at the finish line, though—the iframe embedding isn't working at all due to security hurdles. Instead of letting it stall the launch, I pivoted and added a feature that opens a completely separate Chrome tab so people can use it externally without any restriction. Between navigating that and crushing a few mobile layout bugs, the stable version is officially live!

Features: New-tab launcher for external creative runtimes (bypassing the broken iframe issue!), local data tables, and a secure local beta-registration module with an integrated telemetry log view.

Since my Lenovo/Oppo testing ecosystem is a bit chaotic, I’d love to know: if you open the desktop interface, does the pacing matrix layout feel intuitive to you? Does the new tab feature feel smooth for your workflow? And more importantly, how snappy does the performance feel on a normal machine?
